In 1980 loggers found a mummified dog inside the belly of a tree. Was it swallowed?

A group of loggers cut down a chestnut oak somewhere in a forest in the state of Georgia, USA. To their amazement they found a dog entombed inside the tree trunk. The loggers donated the tree trunk with the dog to the Museum of Forestry, in Waycross, where it is currently on display. How this can be explained? Do really oak trees swallow animals?

بينما كان مجموعة من الحطابين يقطعون شجرة بلوط الكستناء في إحدى غابات ولاية جورجيا بالولايات المتحدة، صعقوا حين وجدوا كلبا متحجرا داخل جذع الشجرة. قام الحطابون بالتبرع بجذع الشجرة مع الكلب داخله إلى متحف الغابات في ويكروس، حيث يوجد حاليا معروضا للجمهور. كيف يمكن تفسير ذلك؟ هل حقا تبتلع أشجار البلوط الحيوانات؟

In 2002, the museum ran a name-the-dog contest, and the name "Stuckie" was chosen.

في عام 2002، أجرى المتحف مسابقة لتسمية الكلب، وتم اختيار اسم "ستاكي" أي العالق.

Apparently, around 1960 the dog chased a small animal, a raccoon maybe, down a hollow in the tree for about 8 meters. As the tree hollow narrowed the dog became stuck and then died of starvation. Dry conditions inside the hollow of the tree allowed the corpse to dry without rotting. The upward draft of air apparently carried the scent of the dead animal away, so it wasn't devoured by insects or other creatures. The tannic acid of the oak, which is a natural desiccant, also helped absorb the moisture and hardened the animal's skin.

على ما يبدو، أنه في حوالي عام 1960 قام الكلب بمطاردة حيوان صغير، راكون على الأغلب، داخل شجرة جوفاء لمسافة حوالي 8 أمتار. حتى ضاق تجويف الشجرة عليه وعلق الكلب ومن ثم مات من الجوع. ويبدو أن الظروف الجافة داخل تجويف الشجرة سمحت للجثة أن تجف دون تعفن. وكان تيار الهواء الصاعد على ما يبدو يحمل رائحة الحيوان الميت بعيدا، لذلك لم تلتهمه الحشرات أو المخلوقات الأخرى. كما أن حمض التانيك من البلوط، وهو مادة تجفيف طبيعية، ساعد على امتصاص الرطوبة من جسمه وتصلب جلد الحيوان.

Stuckie is preserved in an airtight environment to prevent decay.
