Upon receipt of an article on "Donkey Milk Face Creams Benefits" from Elgreco Cosmetics, one of the few cosmetic firms that sell "Natural Donkey Milk" cosmetics; I decided to republish this article.

بعد أن استلمت مقالا عن "فوائد كريمات حليب الحمار للوجه" من شركة إليغرو كوزميتكس ، إحدى شركات مستحضرات التجميل القليلة التي تبيع مستحضرات التجميل من حليب الحمير الأصلي؛ قررت أن أعيد نشر هذا المقال.

No this is not a joke at all. There is a growing trend in Europe to consume donkey's milk. Many donkey farms are established, in Belgium, Italy, France, Turkey, Greece, etc. Asses' milk is used for dairy, cheese, soaps and cosmetics, even in liqueurs. The average price of one liter of donkeys' milk is $19. Now to shocking part, the most expensive cheese is the one made from Balkanطs donkeys; $1,250 for a kilogram of the Serbian Pule smoked cheese!!

لا أبداً هذه ليست مزحة، إذ أن هناك اتجاها متزايدا في أوروبا لاستهلاك حليب الحمير. فقد تم تأسيس العديد من مزارع الحمير في بلجيكا و إيطاليا و فرنسا وتركيا واليونان وغيرها. و يستخدم حليب الحمير في الألبان والجبن وفي صناعة الصابون ومستحضرات التجميل وحتى في المشروبات الكحولية. ويبلغ متوسط سعر اللتر الواحد من حليب الحمير 19 دولار. والأدهى من ذلك هو أن أغلى جبنة هي تلك المصنوعة من حليب حمير البلقان إذ يبلغ سعر الكيلوغرام الواحد من جبنة جبنة بوليه الصربية المدخنة 1250 دولارا!!

Ages ago, during collage days, while on summer internship in Germany, one day I dined with some collage mates, and for lack of command of German language, I ordered some cold meat plate. The plate included some tasty red round meat slices that I enjoyed, till my friends burst into laugh and joked that I just ate donkey meat salami. I denied the possibility of using donkeys' meat in human food and continued my dinner with hidden disgust. But guess what? a week ago when I was preparing my article on Donkeys' Milk, I discovered that Italy is the biggest among European countries importing thousands of tons of donkey meat for human consumption every year. There are even annual festivals in various regions of Italy to enjoy donkey meat.

منذ زمن بعيد وخلال أيام دراستي الجامعة وبينما كنت في تدريب صيفي في ألمانيا تناولت في أحد الأيام العشاء مع عدد من زملائي في الجامعة، ولعدم تمكني من اللغة الألمانية، طلبت وجبة من اللحوم الباردة شملت شرائح لحم مدورة حمراء لذيذة الطعم استمتعت بها، إلى أن انفجر زملائي بالضحك والمزاح مدعيين بأنني قد أكلت للتو لحم سلامي حمار. نفيت آنذاك إمكانية استخدام لحوم الحمير في طعام البشر وواصلت تناول العشاء مخفياً عنهم اشمئزازي. ولكن إحزروا ماذا وجدت الأسبوع الماضي؟ اكتشفت عند تحضيري لمقالتي عن حليب الحمير، أن إيطاليا هي أكثر بلد أوروبي يستهلك لحوم الحمير وأنه يستورد آلاف الأطنان من لحوم الحمير كل عام للاستهلاك البشري؟ وتفاجأت أيضاً بأن هناك مهرجانات سنوية في مناطق مختلفة من إيطاليا للاستمتاع بلحوم الحمير.

This is not a joke! Donkeys do wear pajamas in the French Island of Rhea.
