It was an indescribable scene that I was watching. Sun rays were fighting to cut their way down through the clouds to embrace and kiss the Red sea waves at Jeddah corniche. Fortunately, smart phones of these days are always ready to capture such stunning moments. In this post I have included some beautiful sun-ray shots at Jeddah corniche as well as others not my own and not in Jeddah.

Since I wrote about this subject in 2012, I thought it has gone extinct. But I discovered that this act is still alive in spite of Covid 19 endemic. In July 2020, car quarrying event was there among the activities of summer 41 of Al-Habla Tourist Park in Uhud Rafidah Governorate, Southern Saudi Arabia.

منذ أن كتبت عن هذا الموضوع في عام 2012، اعتقدت أن هذه الأعمال قد انقرضت. ولكنني اكتشفت أنها لا تزال على قيد الحياة على الرغم من جائحة الكورونا (كوفيد 19). ففي يوليو 2020، أقيمت فعالية تحجير السيارات ضمن فعاليات صيف 41 لمنتزه الحبلة السياحي بمحافظة أحد رفيدة، جنوب المملكة العربية السعودية.

It is one of the most interesting co-incidents. Another strange fact is that VIMTO was registered in 1912 in UK as a medicine!!

إنها واحدة من أكثر المصادفات غرابة. إضافة إلى غرابة حقيقة أخرى وهي أنه تم تسجيل ڤيمتو كدواء في عام 1912 في المملكة المتحدة!!

Strangely enough, VIMTO was not exported to USA till 1988; to France, Portugal and Spain till 1991; to the Netherlands till 2008; to China till 2009; and to Eastern Europe till 2010!!

ومن الغريب حقاً أنه لم يتم تصدير الڤيمتو إلى الولايات المتحدة حتى عام 1988؛ وإلى فرنسا والبرتغال واسبانيا حتى عام 1991؛ وإلى هولندا حتى عام 2008؛ وإلى الصين حتى عام 2009؛ وإلى أوروبا الشرقية حتى عام 2010!!

The carpet which is known as Baroda Pearl Carpet, has been the property of the Indian family for nearly a hundred years.

تعرف هذه السجادة بسجادة بارودا وقد ظلت قرابة مائة عام ملكا لعائلة هندية.

The story of this carpet started when the Maharaja of Baroda (present-day Vadodara, Gujarat) converted to Islam, he ordered in 1865 to weave a precious carpet to be a cover for the tomb of the Holy Prophet in Medina. However, the maharajah died in 1870 before realizing his dream and the pearl carpet remained in his family.

تبدأ قصة هذه السجادة عندما اعتنق مهراجا منطقة بارودا الهندية (في هذه الأيام تدعى فدودارا، في غوجورات) الإسلام فأمر في عام 1865 بحياكة سجادة نفيسة لكي تكون غطاءاً لقبر الرسول الكريم في المدينة المنورة. ولكن المهراجا توفي في عام 1870 قبل أن يحقق حلمه فبقيت سجادة اللآلئ مع العائلة.

منارة ميناء جدة أعلى من ارتفاع تمثال الحرية في نيويورك.

Not many people know that the Statue of Liberty (93 m) was used as a lighthouse and even less people know that Jeddah seaport lighthouse, Saudi Arabia, is taller than the statue of liberty by 40 m. As a matter of fact it is the tallest lighthouse in the world (133 m).

كثيرون لا يعرفون أن تمثال الحرية والبالغ ارتفاعه 93 مترا كان يستخدم كمنارة بحرية، وأقل منهم من يعرفون أن منارة ميناء جدة في المملكة العربية السعودية هي أطول من تمثال الحرية بمقدار 40 مترا. وفي الحقيقة هي أعلى منارة في العالم إذ يبلغ ارتفاعها 133 مترا.

Amazing set of photographs of Makkah in the 19th century, for almost 100 years, no one questioned the authorship of the Dutch Orientalist Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje as the photographer of the famous Makkah Photographs taken in 1885. It wasn't until 1981 that Abd al-Ghaffar ibn Abd al-Rahmanal-Baghdadi, a physician from Makkah, was re-identified as the original photographer. Painstaking scientific research has brought his achievements to the forefront again, recognizing him as most certainly the first Meccan photographer.

مجموعة صور فوتوغرافية احترافية لمكة المكرمة في القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي لم يشكك أحد لسنوات قاربت المئة عام من صحة إدعاءات المستشرق الهولندي المشهور كريستيان سنوك هارغروني بأنه كان مصور الصور الفوتوغرافية الشهيرة لمكة المكرمة التي صورت عام 1885. حتى جاء عام 1981 حين ثبت أن الطبيب المكاوي عبد الغفار ابن عبد الرحمن البغدادي هو المصور الحقيقي لهذه الصور. إذ أظهر البحث العلمي المضني انجازاته الى الواجهة مجدداً مع الاعتراف بأنه صاحب الصور الأصلي وأنه كان بالتأكيد أول مصور مكاوي.
