Identical twins may have nearly identical DNA, but their choices in life can alter their look. One of those choices is smoking.

The University Hospitals of Cleveland, United States published a study titled "Facial Changes Caused by Smoking: A Comparison between Smoking and Nonsmoking Identical Twins". The study indicated that the longer the twin smoked, the older he/she appeared. Each 10 years of smoking culminated to a 2½-year older appearance.

أصدرت مستشفيات جامعة كليفلاند بالولايات المتحدة دراسة بعنوان "تغيرات الوجه الناجمة عن التدخين: مقارنة بين المدخن وغير المدخن في التوائم المتماثلة". وضحت الدراسة أنه كلما زادت مدة التدخين عند التوأم المدخن كلما بانت عليه علامات تقدم السن أكثر من قرينه. وأن كل 10 سنوات من التدخين تعطي مظهراً يزيد عن العمر الحقيقي بـ ½2 سنة.

At age of 52, the twin on the left has been smoking for 20-years and the right one never.

The study analyzed 79 pairs of twins, 22 males and 57 females, all 18 years and older identified from 2007-2010 annual Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, in which only one twin smokes or both are smokers and one twin smoked at least 5 years longer than his or her counterpart.
