Rickshaws are viable alternative transport in crowded cities.

دراجات الريكشا ثلاثية العجلات هي بديل صالح للتنقل في المدن المزدحمة.

In January last year, I attended "Dirty Dancing" one of London's west end musical shows. When we got out it was late and raining, and we couldn't get a cab (taxi). One rickshaw man offered to give us a ride. I looked at the guy, and told him in an underestimating tone, that the distance is not trivial and it wouldn't be easy for him to pedal us all the way to our destination. He assured that it is not an issue. We climbed in hastily to avoid rain. We kept the transparent plastic drapes down to avoid the chilly breeze and stray rain drops. In a short time, not really very short we reached our destination. It was fun and enjoyable ride with cold air seeping in, but it was rough ride in comparison with comfort of sealed cabs.

في يناير من العام الماضي، حضرت مسرحية "الرقص القذر"، إحدى العروض الموسيقية في الوست إند في لندن. وعندما خرجنا كان الوقت متأخرا وكانت تمطر، ولم نتمكن من إيجاد سيارة أجرة. فعرض علينا أحد سائقي درجات الريكشا ثلاثية العجلات أن يوصلنا. نظرت إلى الرجل وقلت بلهجة استخفاف، إن المسافة ليست تافهة ولن يكون سهلا عليه تدوير الدواسات طول الطريق حتى وجهتنا. فأكد لي أنها ليست مشكلة. صعدنا العربة بعجالة لتفادي المطر، وأسدلنا الستائر البلاستيكية الشفافة لتفادي النسمات الباردة وقطرات المطر التائهة، وفي وقت قصير، ليس بالقصير جدا وصلنا إلى وجهتنا. كانت تجربة مسلية وممتعة وكان الهواء المثلج يتسلل الينا، ولكننا أحسسنا بوعرة الشوارع مقارنة مع سيارات الأجرة المريحة المغلقة.
