Could China eclipse Dubai as home of the world's tallest building?

Not only the tallest but most amazingly will be finished in about seven months. In June 2013 excavations started to build the "Sky City", which is an integral city in a 838m tall building, in Changsha city in south-central China. It would-be the tallest building in the world, having 220 floors that will be housing up to 17,400 residents in 5,000 apartments, in addition to hotels, schools, hospitals, offices and shops, totaling an area of 1.05 million m2. There will be 56 different 10m high courtyards used for basketball, tennis, swimming, theaters, and 86,400 square meters of interior vertical organic farms. The building footprint is only 10% of the site; the rest is open parkland.

إنه ليس الأطول فقط ولكنه الأكثر إثارة للدهشة إذ سيتم الانتهاء من بنائه في نحو سبعة أشهر. في يونيو 2013 بدأت الحفريات لبناء مبنى سكاي سيتي أو مدينة السماء وهو مدينة متكاملة في مبنى ارتفاعه 838 متراً في مدينة تشانغشا في جنوب وسط الصين. وبذلك سيكون أطول مبنى في العالم سيحوي 220 طابقاً وسيؤوي 17400 شخص في 5 آلاف مسكن، بالإضافة إلى فنادق ومدارس ومستشفيات ومكاتب ومحلات تجارية تبلغ مساحاتها الإجمالية 1.05 مليون متر مربع. وهناك 56 باحة مختلفة ارتفاعها 10 أمتار ستستخدم لكرة السلة والتنس والسباحة والمسارح و86.4 ألف متر مربع من المزارع العضوية العمودية الداخلية. ويستخدم المبنى 10٪ فقط من مساحة الموقع والباقي هو حدائق مفتوحة.

By going up, hundreds of acres of land are saved from being turned into roads and parking lots. A resident of Sky City will use 1/100th the average land per person somewhere else. Using elevators instead of cars to get to schools, businesses and recreational facilities, thousands of cars are taken off the roads and thousands of hours of commuting time are saved. This makes sense, because vertical distances are a lot shorter than horizontal distances, and elevators are about the most energy efficient moving devices made. But if you would rather walk rather than wait for one of 92 elevators, there is nine km long ramp running from the first to the 170th floor.

إن البناء الرأسي الى أعلى يحفظ مئات الدونمات من الأراضي من أن تتحول إلى طرق ومواقف للسيارات. فالساكن الواحد يحتاج بالمتوسط فقط واحد في المئة مما يحتاجه من الأراضي في مكان آخر. وباستخدام المصاعد بدلا من السيارات للوصول إلى المدارس والعمل والمحلات التجارية والمرافق الترفيهية يعني سحب آلاف السيارات من الطرقات وتوفير آلاف الساعات من الوقت للتنقل. وهذا منطقي؛ لأن المسافات الرأسية هي أقصر في مجموعها بكثير من المسافات الأفقية، والمصاعد تقريباً هي أكثر الأجهزة المتحركة كفاءة في الطاقة. أما إذا كنت تفضل المشي بدلا من الانتظار واحد من الـ 92 مصعداً، فهناك منحدر طوله تسعة كيلومترات يمتد من الطابق الأول إلى الطابق 170.

The building is five times more energy efficient than conventional ones. It will be using 20 cm thick insulated walls and triple glazing with exterior shading on windows to cut cooling requirements by 30%, Needed cooling or heating comes from a co-generation plant using waste heat from power generation. According to Forbes, the cost will be as low as $1,500 per square meter, compared to $15,000 for Dubai Burj Khalifa.

والمبنى أكثر كفاءة من الأبنية التقليدية بخمس مرات وذلك لاستخدامه جدران معزولة بسماكة 20 سم وزجاج ثلاثي الطبقات مع تظليل خارجي على النوافذ يخفض متطلبات التبريد بنسبة 30٪. وأما التبريد أو التدفئة فيتم الحصول عليهما من محطة التوليد المشتركة باستخدام الحرارة الخارجة من مولدات الطاقة. وفقا لمجلة فوربس فإن التكلفة للمتر المربع الواحد قليلة وتقارب 1،500 دولار مقارنة بـ 15،000 دولار لبرج خليفة بدبي.
