Rumbling Silt of The Yellow Riverالطمي الهادر في النهر الأصفر

What seems to be a disastrous rumbling silt is actually a planned annual process.

ما يبدو وكأنه كارثة لطمي هادر هو في الحقيقة حدث سنوي مخطط ومدروس.

Silt builds up in massive amounts on the Yellow River bed, upstream of Xiaolangdi Dam in Jiyuan, Central China's Henan province. This raises the river bed about 2 meters each year, increasing the risk of flood. So the Yellow River authorities open the floodgates allowing the slit to be washed downstream. Each year more than 30 million tones of silt are cleared this way. Watching this incredible event has become a tourist attraction.

إذ يتراكم الطمي بكميات كبيرة في قاع النهر الأصفر الوارد قبيل سد شياولانغدى في مقاطعة خنان في وسط الصين. مما يؤدي إلى ارتفاع مستوى النهر بحوالي مترين في كل عام، مما يزيد من خطر الفيضانات. لذلك تقوم سلطات النهر الأصفر بتفتح بوابات الفيضانات على مصراعيها للسماح بغسل الطمي المتراكم عند مصب النهر. ويتم تنظيف أكثر من 30 مليون طن من الطمي سنوياً بهذه الطريقة. وقد أصبح هذا العمل الضخم حدثاً سنوياً يجذب السياح.

The Dam is 154 m tall and 1,317 m wide, and construction cost US$3.5 billion. It has six 306 MW turbines that can generate 5.1 Twh (Terra Watt Hour) of electricity annually. (Source)
