Strangely enough, the thieves here are birds! They are "Honey-buzzards". They are large birds of prey that have broad wings and a long tail. The plumage varies with age - typical adults are grayish-brown on their upperparts and whitish on under-parts.

والغريب تماما أن اللصوص هنا هي طيور! إنها "صقور العسل" أو حميمق النحل. وهي طيور جارحة كبيرة الحجم لها أجنحة عريضة وذيل طويل. يختلف الريش باختلاف العمر - فالبالغون عامة يكون لونهم بنيًا رماديًا في أجزائهم العلوية وأبيضًا في أجزائهم السفلية.

The honey-buzzard feeds mainly on the larvae of bees and wasps, as well as parts of the honeycomb and honey. Its other food includes insects like alate termites and ants, lizards, frogs, birds and small mammals.

يتغذى صقر العسل بشكل رئيسي على يرقات النحل والدبابير، بالإضافة إلى أجزاء من قرص العسل والعسل. ويشمل طعامها أيضا الحشرات مثل النمل الأبيض والنمل والسحالي والضفادع والطيور والثدييات الصغيرة.

If the beehive is inside a tree cavity, it will dig out the combs and pick out the larvae, pupae as well as the adults. If the nest is hanging from a branch, it will try grab the honeycombs and fly off with it or feed on the ground if the honeycombs fall off the branch.

إذا كان خلية النحل داخل تجويف شجرة، فهو يقوم بالحفر للوصول إلى قرص العسل ومن ثم اختيار اليرقات والعذارى وكذلك البالغين. وإذا كان العش معلقًا على فرع، فسوف يحاول الإمساك بقرص العسل ويطير به أو يتغذى على الأرض إذا سقطت قرص العسل عن الفرع.

The honey-buzzard's forehead, lores and legs are well protected against the stings of bees and wasps. It is also believed to have a chemical deterrent in their feathers that protects it from attacks by these hymenopterans.

تتمتع جبهة صقر العسل وريشه وأرجله بحماية جيدة ضد لسعات النحل والدبابير. ويُعتقد أيضًا أن لديه رادعًا كيميائيًا في ريشه يحميه من هجمات الحشرات اللاسعة.
