Is this fried egg dropped on the beach?

هل هذه بيضة مقلية وقعت على رمل الشاطئ؟

No it is not. It is a jellyfish washed off the shore, commonly known as the fried egg jellyfish or egg-yolk jellyfish (scientifically Phacellophora camtschatica). This species can be easily identified by the yellow coloration in the center of its body which closely resembles an egg yolk, hence it got its common name. It can be found worldwide.

لا إنها ليست كذلك. وإنما هو قنديل بحر ألقته الأمواج على الشاطئ، وهو معروف باسم قنديل البيض المقلي أو قنديل صفار البيض (ويسمى علميًا Phacellophora camtschatica). ويمكن التعرف بسهولة على هذا النوع من قناديل البحر يتميز باللون الأصفر الموجود في وسط جسمه والذي يشبه إلى حد كبير صفار البيض، ومن هنا جاء اسمه الشائع. ويمكن العثور عليها في جميع أنحاء العالم.

Some individuals of the fried egg jellyfish can have a bell close to 60 cm in diameter, and most individuals have 16 clusters of up to a few dozen tentacles, each up to 6 m long. They use their stinging tentacles to trap food, usually plankton and other jellyfish. The sting has very little effect on humans. Its sting is so mild that the tentacles sometimes provide shelter to small fish in the open ocean. Sometimes small animals like crabs hitch a ride on top of and inside the jellyfish's bell, tucked away from the stingers.

Fried Egg Jellyfish only live for about half a year, from summer to winter. They reproduce in warm waters, asexually producing tiny medusae.

Despite its preference for spending most of its time motionless, the jellyfish can swim actively.

The primary prey of the Fried Egg Jellyfish is plankton and other jellyfish.

There is another species, but of smaller size found in the MediterraneanSea, called the Mediterranean jellyfish or the fried egg jellyfish (scientifically Cotylorhiza tuberculata). They can reach 35 cm in diameter, but is usually less than 17 cm. Their appendages are usually colored a deep purple.

ويوجد نوع آخر ولكن أصغر حجمًا يتواجد في البحر الأبيض المتوسط، ويسمى قنديل البحر الأبيض المتوسط أو قنديل البحر البيض المقلي (علميًا Cotylorhiza tuberculata). يمكن أن يصل قطرها إلى 35 سم، ولكن عادة ما يكون أقل من 17 سم. عادة ما يكون لون ملامسها أرجواني الداكن.
