For the last 31 years, in winter from January 5 to February 25, a magical city made of ice glows brightly in the northern Chinese city of Harbin at temperatures that could go as low as -35°C. Enchanting ice castles, towers and building illuminated with colored lights form the centerpiece of the Harbin Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. The event, which has the world's largest snow sculptures, draws around a million visitors every year.

The blocks of ice used to create the vast structures are cut from the nearby Songhua River. Over 10,000 workers are employed to build the ice and snow sculptures, requiring more than 180,000 cubic meters of ice and 150,000 cubic meters of snow.

يتم قطع كتل الجليد المستخدمة لإنشاء المجسمات الضخمة من المياه المتجمدة لنهر سونغهوا المجاور. ويعمل أكثر من 10 آلاف عامل في بناء مجسمات الجليد والثلج، وذلك يتطلب أكثر من 180 ألف متر مكعب من الجليد و 150 ألف متر مكعب من الثلوج.
