According to Reuters and other local and international press agencies, in May 2012 hundreds of amateur ghost hunters raided the long-abandoned Riyadh's Irqa Hospital upon the rumors that the hospital is haunted by jinn.
"Teenagers sent text messages calling for an operation against some of the jinn who live in the hospital, and they broke into the hospital and smashed its facilities and burned 60 percent of it," Okaz local newspaper reported. Several films have since been posted on YouTube showing grinning young men exploring the building's deserted rooms in search of evidence of spectral activity. One showed blazing palm trees that had been torched by the ghost hunters. Police forces rushed to the place to control the scene.

ذكرت جريدة عكاظ السعودية "أن ثمة رسالة بالجوال تناقلها مراهقون تدعو إلى شن حملة على بعض الجن الذين يسكنون المستشفى المهجور، إذ اقتحم شباب مبنى المستشفى واعتدوا على مكوناته وأحرقوا 60 في المائة من المستشفى قبل أن تحضر الأجهزة المختصة المعنية إلى المكان لتسيطر على الوضع". ومنذ ذلك الحين تم نشر العديد من مقاطع الفيديو على موقع يوتيوب تظهر شباباً يستكشفون غرف المبنى المهجور بحثا عن أدلة على نشاط الأشباح. وأظهرت مقاطع اشتعال النيران بأشجار النخيل التي قام بها صائدو الأشباح. وقد هرعت قوات الشرطة الى المكان للسيطرة على الموقف.

The dingy corridors and gloomy wards of the abandoned hospital complex, in addition to neighbors complaints about weird sounds and shadowy movements, raised the believe that it is haunted by jinn and malevolent spirits. The macabre fascination with Irqa hospital, which treated Gulf War combatants in 1990-1991, began with tweeted rumors and escalated to the rampage. This prompted angry press complaints that the authorities were allowing the hospital complex to fall into disrepair. Jinn fever reached the point where the Health Ministry issued a terse statement disclaiming responsibility for the decaying building, which it said was privately owned and too decrepit to be revived as a working hospital. The hospital was built 28 years ago by Saudi Oger company and includes a 200 unit housing campus.
أدت ممرات المستشفى المظلمة وأجنحته القاتمة بالإضافة إلى شكاوى سكان المنطقة المجاورة عن صدور أصوات غريبة وحركات غامضة إلى الإعتقاد بأنه مسكون من قبل الجن والارواح الشريرة. وبدأ مسلسل رعب مستشفى عِرقة المهجور، والذي عالج مقاتلي حرب الخليج في عام 1990- 1991، بتناقل الشائعات عبر البلاك بيري والفيسبوك وتويتر فتصاعد إلى الهيجان. وهذا دفع الصحافة الغاضبة إلى الشكوى من سماح السلطات بوصول المباني إلى هذه الحالة سيئة. ووصلت حمى الجن إلى درجة أن وزارة الصحة أصدرت بياناً مقتضباً يخلي مسؤوليتها عن المستشفى البالي، وقالت بأنه ملك للقطاع الخاص وهو في حال سيئة جدا بحيث لا يمكن احياؤه كمستشفى عامل. وقد بني هذا المستشفى قبل 28 عاما من قبل شركة سعودي أوجيه، ويتضمن مجمع سكني به 200 وحدة سكنية.
