Millions of Squids Perform Fascinating Light Showsملايين الحبار تقوم بعروض ضوئية ساحرة

Every year from March to June millions of Firefly Squids perform fascinating light shows that attract thousands of tourists to Toyama Bay in Japan. The fascinating light shows come from thousands of squids that flash in unison or in endlessly alternating patterns. They come together to fertilize and to drop their eggs in the Toyama Bay. The Firefly Squid is 7 cm long, normally lives at 350m underwater and has special organs called photophores that emit deep cobalt blue light.

في كل عام من شهر مارس (آذار) إلى شهر يونيو (حزيران) تقوم ملايين من الحبار المضيئ (حبار اليراع) بعروضها الضوئية الضخمة في خليج توياما في اليابان مجتذبة آلاف السياح. والعرض الضوئي الساحر يأتي من آلاف الحبار الذي يومض في تناغم تام أو بأنماط تناوب لا نهائية. يأتي حبار اليراع خليج توياما للتلقيح ووضع بيضه. ويبلغ طول حبارة اليراع حوالي 7 سم وتعيش عادة على عمق 350 متراً ولها أجهزة خاصة تدعى فوتوفورز ينبعث منها ضوء أزرق كوبالتي عميق.

The firefly squid light shows are thought to serve several functions. They can be used to communicate with potential mates or rivals. They may also be used to disguise the squid's shape and confuse predators, allowing it to escape. On the other hand, it is believed that the squid use their blue flashing lights to attract small fish prey then catch them with their powerful tentacles. This event is very important for fishermen as well as to sea creatures and sea birds. Firefly squids is also considered a delicacy in Japan.

ويعتقد أن العرض الضوئي الذي يقوم به حبار اليراع له عدة وظائف. إذ يحتمل أنه يستخدم للتواصل بين الأقران المحتملين أو المنافسين. كما أنه ققد يكون لتمويه شكل الحبار ولإرباك الحيوانات المفترسة مما يسمح للحبار بالنجاة. ومن ناحية أخرى يعتقد أن الحبار يستخدم الضوء الأزرق الوامض لجذب فرائسه من السمك الصغير ليمسكها بأطرافه القوية. هذا الحدث مهم جدا للصيادين وكذلك للكائنات والطيور البحرية. ويعتبر حبار اليراع طعاما شهيا في اليابان.
