Though Thais are the most famous in fruit and vegetable carvings, the origin of this art is disputed; many people believe it began in Sukothai, Thailand 700 years ago; while others believe it originated during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-906) and the Sung Dynasty (AD 960-1279) in China.

رغم أن التايلانديين هم أشهر من يقومون بنحت الفواكه والخضار إلا أن الأقوال تختلف حول أين بدأ هذا فن، فكثيرون يعتقدون أنه بدأ في سوكوثاي في تايلاند قبل 700 سنة مضت، في حين يعتقد آخرون أنه نشأ في عهد أسرة تانغ (618-906 م) وأسرة سونغ (960-1279 م) في الصين.

In the mid 20th Century, the art of vegetable carving began to grow outside Thailand. Today, one can marvel Vegetable carving throughout the world. Vegetable carving is generally used as a garnish. It can also be used for flower arranging, specifically in high class hotels and restaurants.

بدأ فن نحت الخضار ينمو خارج تايلند في منتصف القرن العشرين ويمكن اليوم، للمرء أن يتمتع بالخضار المنحوتة في جميع أنحاء العالم. إذ أن نحت الخضار يستخدم كنوع من التزيين للموائد و أيضا في تنسيق الزهور، وبالذات في الفنادق والمطاعم الفاخرة.
