After I encountered this subject, I became almost sure that we eat a lot of ghost food these days, as food manufacturers around the globe are artificially flavoring God-knows-what food substitute mixtures that they sell us! GhostFood initiative was commissioned in 2013 to explore eating in a future due to loss of biodiversity brought on by climate change and other human acts. A GhostFood mobile food trailer have served public in Philadelphia, Newark and Albuquerque, in USA.

بعد أن اطلعت على هذا الموضوع أصبحت شبه متأكد بأننا نتناول كثيراً من طعام الأشباح بالفعل هذه الأيام؛ فمصنعو المواد الغذائية في جميع أنحاء العالم يضعون لنا نكهات صناعية على بدائل للطعام الأصلي لا يعلمها إللا الله! في عام 2013 أطلقت مبادرة طعام الأشباح لاستكشاف الطعام المستقبلي الناجم عن فقدان التنوع البيئي بسبب تغير المناخ وأمور أخرى يقوم بها الإنسان. وقد قامت مقطورة طعام الأشباح المتنقلة بتقديم وجبات للعامة في فيلادلفيا ونيوارك والبوكيرك في الولايات المتحدة.

Diners wear a white plastic mask that pipes food-scent into their nostrils just before having a bite of the supplied snack. The snacks are not real food, but the brain thinks they are. This way one can eat unavailable food by deceiving the brain through olfactory stimulation. In reality, the served snacks were made of edible substitutes that, though near-flavorless in real life, have been manufactured to mimic the texture and mouth feel of the originals. The "Atlantic cod, beer-battered and deep-fried" snack, for example, was made from a vegetable protein and algae that is beer-battered and fried.

يرتدي الزبون انبوباً بلاستيكيا أبيض ينقل رائحة الطعام إلى أنفه قبل لحظة من قضمه قطعة من الوجبة الخفيفة المقدمة إليه. وهذه الوجبة ليست طعاما حقيقيا، ولكن الدماغ يعتقد أنها حقيقية. وبذلك يمكن للمرء أن يتذوق مأكولات غير متوفرة وذلك بخداع دماغه عن طريق تحفيز حاسة الشم. ففي الواقع، كانت الوجبات الخفيفة المقدمة هي بدائل صالحة للأكل، ورغم أن لا طعم لها تقريباإللا أنها قريبة الشبه من الطعام الحقيقي، إذ يتم تحضيرها لتماثل نفس الملمس وما يشعر به الفم للطعام الأصلي. فعلى سبيل المثال وجبة "سمك القد الأطلسي المقلي بعمق" صنعت من بروتين نباتي وطحالب مغطاة بعجينة البيرة ومقلية بعمق.
