Although, lip plates or lip discs are a form of body modifications among certain tribes in Africa and Amazonia, I found a some adaptation of it in civilized countries among young people. Don't ask me why would anyone deform himself like that. Large discs (usually circular, and made from clay or wood) are inserted into a pierced hole in either the upper or lower lip, or both, thereby stretching it. Archeological evidence indicates that lip plates have been independently invented, in Sudan and Ethiopia (8700 BC), Mesoamerica (1500 BC), and Coastal Ecuador (500 BC).
