All what I could see from the skies are small scatter islands, the Maldives.

كل ما كنت أراه من الجو هو جزر صغيرة مبعثرة. كانت هذه هي جزر المالديف.

That was many years ago when I traveled to the Maldives. The plane was approaching an airport that has no city attached to it, just breathtaking turquoise waters surrounding it. Yes, an island solely for the main airport. One of the things that stuck me straight at the airport, is their alphabet. It has the same first nine Arabic (Indian) digits to represent a, b, c, etc.

To reach our resort, which again was an island by itself, we had to take a yacht, not a taxi! In addition to boats, one can also take seaplanes to remote islands. Almost every island is a resort, except the capital city, Male, which is not that big anyway. The weather is tropical and humid; temperature never parts the 30ºC most of the year.

If you intend to immerse yourself in romantic tropical luxury, I can recommend having dinner at one the following Maldives resorts. They're all seductive oases of style and romance surrounded by pristine sugary white sands, breathtaking turquoise waters, and lazy palms swaying in the breeze.

كان ذلك قبل سنوات عديدة عندما سافرت إلى جزر المالديف. كانت الطائرة تقترب من مطار لا وجود لمدينة متصلة به، تحيط به مياه فيروزية خلابة. نعم، جزيرة كل ما عليها هو المطار الرئيسي. أحدى الأشياء التي فاجأتني رأساً في المطار هي أبجدية المالديف، فأول تسعة حروف منها هي نفس الأرقام العربية (الهندية) وتمثل الحروف أ ب ت إلخ.

وللوصول إلى منتجعنا، والذي كان أيضاً جزيرة في حد ذاته، كان علينا أن نستقل يختا، وليس سيارة أجرة! و يمكن للمرء بالإضافة إلى القوارب، أن يستقل الطائرات المائية إلى الجزر النائية. كل الجزر تقريبا هي منتجعات، باستثناء العاصمة، مالي، وهي ليست كبيرة على أي حال. طقس الماليف استوائي ورطب؛ ودرجة الحرارة لا تفارق أبدا 30 درجة معظم ايام السنة.

فإذا كنت تنوي أن تغرق نفسك في الترف الاستوائي الرومانسي، فأني أوصى بأن تتعشى في أحد منتجعات جزر المالديف التالية. جميعها واحات مغرية من الفخامة والرومانسية، تحيط بها رمال بكر سكرية بيضاء ومياه فيروزية تخطف الأبصار ونخيل كسول يتمايل مع النسيم.
