It is a big mystery that happens in the Death Valley, Eastern California, USA. The mysterious sailing stones have been discovered to slide over valleys that people do not live in. These valleys are filled with dry cracking muddy ground during summer and ice during winter. The mysterious sailing stones not only slide but dig and leave shallow track in their wake.

ما يحدث في وادي الموت الموجود شرق ولاية كاليفورنيا في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية هو لغز كبير. فقد تم اكتشاف حجارة شراعية غامضة تنزلق وتتحرك في وديان غير مأهولة بالبشر. وهذه الأودية ممتلئة بالوحل الجاف المتشقق خلال فصل الصيف و بالجليد خلال فصل الشتاء. وهي لا تنزلق فقط بل وتحفر أخاديد ومسارات في أعقابها.

Some stones make linear turns others make oval turns while others create a wavy shape on their tracks. No one has ever seen them move and nobody knows the speed they move with. Some stones move further than others over two to five years.

بعض الحجارة ترسم مساراً خطياً وبعضها يرسم منعطفات بيضاوية في حين يرسم البعض الآخر مسارات متموجة. لم يشاهد أحد في أي وقت من الأوقات هذه الصخور تتحرك أمامه ولا احد يعلم ماهي سرعة حركتها. وقد وجد أن بعض الحجارة تتحرك أكثر من غيرها على مدى سنتين إلى خمس سنوات.

Rocks seem to have been dragged leaving trails of hundreds of meters.

تبدو الصخور وكأنها سحبت وجُرت على الأرض تاركة أخاديد لمئات الأمتار.

Some geologists came up with the conclusion that the mysterious sailing stones move through the slippery ground when the mud is wet and the stones have little ice droplets on them with the help of the wind. This is however not entirely true because the stones move during the summer when the temperature is too high and even dries the stones themselves.

وقد قام بعض الجيولوجيين بتقديم تفسيرٍ مفاده أن الحجارة الشراعية الغامضة إنما تتحرك على أرض زلقة عندما يكون الطين رطباً وتكون الحجار مكسوة بقطرات الجليد الصغيرة وذلك بمساعدة الرياح. وهذا ليس صحيحا تماما، لأنه وجد أن الحجارة تحرك في فصل الصيف أيضاً عندما تكون درجة الحرارة مرتفعة جدا والحجارة جافة.
