The pangolin is also called the Armored Ant Eater. It is probably one of the weirdest mammals on Earth, as it doesn't really look like a mammal because its whole body is covered in large keratin scales, which serve as an armor. These small mammals inhabit the tropical regions of Africa and Asia.

البانغولين يسمى أيضا آكل النمل المدرع وهو واحد من أغرب الثدييات على وجه الأرض لأنه لا يبدو مثل الثدييات فجسمه كله مغطى بحراشف الكيراتين الكبيرة والتي تخدمه كدرع. وهذه الثدييات الصغيرة تعيش في المناطق المدارية من أفريقيا وآسيا.

Pangolin size varies by species, from 40 to 100 cm. Their weight is 12 to 18 kilograms. Mostly they feed on ants and termites. The Pangolins lead a nocturnal solitary lifestyle, spending daytime in their burrows, which can exceed 6 meters. They use their strong claws to rip open ant mounds or a termite nests and use their extremely long tongues (40 cm) and covered with sticky saliva to eat the insects. The Pangolins have very poorly evolved eyesight and rely mostly on their highly advanced sense of smell to find food.

يختلف حجم البانغولين حسب نوعه ويتراوح مابين40 و 100 سم. وزنه مابين 12 و 18 كجم. ومعظم غذائه من النمل والنمل الأبيض. وهو حيوان ليلي يعيش حياة إنفرادية إذ يقضى فترة النهار في حجره الذي قد يزيد طوله عن ستة أمتار. تستخدم هذه الحيوانات مخالبها القوية لتمزيق وفتح تلال وأعشاش النمل وتستخدم لسانها الطويل جداً (40 سم) والمغطى باللعاب اللزج في أكل الحشرات. وهي ضعيفة البصر جداً وتعتمد في المعظم على حاسة الشم المتطورة جداً لديها للعثور على الغذاء.

The Pangolins have a gestation period of four to five months, after which one or sometimes two young are born in the mother's burrow. They develop fairly quickly and start leaving the burrow and look for ant mounds together with their mothers after 3-4 months.

وفترة الحمل لديها من 4-5 أشهر تلد وبعدها ولدت طفلاً واحداً و في بعض الأحيان اثنين في جحر الأم. وهي تنمو بسرعة كبيرة وتبدأ مغادرة الجحر والبحث عن تلال النمل مع أمهاتها بعد 3-4 أشهر.

The Pangolin doesn't have many natural predators – only the fiercest carnivores. Also, their meat is widely used in dishes in China and other Asian countries. As many of the Pangolin species are classified as "Threatened", authorities devote much time and funds to fight with illegal Pangolin killing.

ليس للبانغولين أعداء في الطبيعة تفترسه -- فقط أشرس الحيوانات آكلة اللحوم. ولكن تستخدم لحومها على نطاق واسع في أطباق في الصين وبلدان آسيوية أخرى. وقد تم تصنيف الكثير من أنواع البانغولين باعتبارها "مهددة” وتكرس السلطات الكثير من الوقت والأموال لمحاربة قتل البانغولين غير المشروع.
