أصابع كلتا يديها المشوهة تجعل من الصعب إمساكها بالفاكهة التي تبيعها.

If one of your beloved ones passed away, would you cut off one of your fingers mourning him, so that his memory would remain with you for life? This is exactly what Dani ethnic group do, a practice they call ikipalin!!

إذا توفي أحد أحبائك فهل يمكن أن تقطع أحد أصابعك حزنا عليه لتبقى ذكراه تلازمك مدى الحياة؟ هذا بالضبط ما تفعله مجموعة داني العرقية، ويسمون هذه الممارسة إيكيبالين!!

The loss of their fingers represent the loss of loved ones who have died.

يمثل فقدان أصابعهم فقدان أحبائهم الذين ماتوا.

Ikipalin is a finger cutting ritual practiced by the Dani tribe, who live in Wamena village of the Jayawijaya Regency in Indonesia. Mostly done by women, the deceased's relatives would cut off their fingers to express the pain of mourning. They believed that ikipalin would keep the deceased's restless spirit away and would eliminate misfortunes brought by the dead.

إيكيبالين هي طقوس يتم فيها قطع الأصابع وتمارسها قبيلة داني البدائية، التي تعيش في قرية وامينا في مقاطعة جاياويجايا في إندونيسيا. إذ يقوم أقارب المتوفى في الغالب بقطع أصابعهم للتعبير عن ألم وحزن الحداد على فقدانهم أحباءهم. فهم يعتقدون أن الإيكيبالين يبقي روح المتوفى المضطربة بعيدةً ويحمي من المصائب التي قد يجلبها الموتى.

Ikipalin was banned by the Indonesian government but it was speculated that the ritual still continues in secret.

وقد تم حظر طقوس الإيكيبالين من قبل الحكومة الإندونيسية ولكن تكهنت بأن الطقوس لا تزال مستمرة في الخفاء.
