Sultan Ahmet Mosque or The Blue Mosque   جامع السلطان أحمد أو المسجد الأزرق

Just as Istanbul straddles Europe and Asia fusing the ancient and the modern, it also balances traditional and contemporary festivities during the blessed month of Ramadan. Preparations for the month start weeks in advance with welcoming light bulbs above main mosques minarets.

فكما أن اسطنبول هي حلقة وصل بين أوروبا وآسيا تصهر القديم بالحديث، فإنها توازن أيضاً بين الاحتفالات التقليدية والمعاصرة خلال شهر رمضان المبارك. تبدأ الاستعدادات أسابيعاً قبل بداية الشهر بتعليق المصابيح فوق مآذن المساجد الكبرى للترحيب بالشهر الكريم.

The main Ramadan festivities are centered around the magnificent Sultan Ahmet Mosque (The Blue Mosque). The mosque gardens turn into impromptu picnic areas with families coming from afar to spend the day. The mosque surrounding host mini restaurants opened during the month of Ramadan, special shows and traditional Ottoman theatrical shows. Iftar menus start with a soup or an appetizer platter called "Iftariye" which consists of dates, olives, cheese, pastırma, sujuk, Turkish Pide bread (which is specially baked in Ramadan) and various pastries called "börek". The main course consists of various Turkish foods. The famous dessert called "güllaç".

وتتركز الاحتفالات الرمضانية الرئيسية حول جامع السلطان أحمد المهيب (المسجد الأزرق). إذ تتحول الحدائق المحيطة بالجامع إلى مناطق نزهة تؤمها العائلات القادمة من بعيد لقضاء يوم كامل. وتستضيف ساحات الجامع المطاعم البسيطة خلال شهر رمضان، وكذلك تستضيف عروضاً خاصة وعروضاً مسرحية تقليدية عثمانية. عادة يبدأ الإفطار بالحساء أو طبق فاتح الشهية الذي يسمى 'إفطارية' و تتكون من التمر والزيتون والجبن والبسطرمة والسجق وخبز بايده التركي (والذي يخبز خصيصا في شهر رمضان) إضافة إلى مختلف المعجنات التي تسمى 'بورك'. أما الطبق الرئيسي فيحوي مختلف الأطعمة التركية. والحلوى الشهيرة هي الكولاج.
