What is slithering under the desert sand?

ماذا ينزلق تحت رمال الصحراء؟

Not strange creatures, but a network of barchan dune sculpted by consistent direction winds. The Empty Quarter (Rub' AlKhali in Arabic), is one of the largest sand deserts in the world, encompassing the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula, including southern Saudi Arabia, and areas of Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. It measures about 1,000 km long by 650 km wide and is largely unexplored and virtually uninhabited. Even the Bedouins only skirt its edges.

إنها ليست مخلوقات غريبة وإنما شبكة من الكثبان الهلالية تكونت بفعل رياح تأتي من اتجاه ثابت. صحراء الربع الخالي هي واحدة من أكبر الصحاري الرملية في العالم وتشغل الثلث الجنوبي من شبه الجزيرة العربية، بما في ذلك جنوب المملكة العربية السعودية ومناطق من عمان والإمارات العربية المتحدة و اليمن. ومساحتها تقاغرب 1000 كم طولا و 650 كم عرضا وهي غير مستكشفة إلى حد كبير و غير مأهولة تقريبا. حتى البدو لا يعرفون غير أطرافها.

With summer temperatures up to nearly 55°C and dunes taller than Eiffel Tower the Empty Quarter may be the most forbidding environment on Earth. However, as nearly everywhere else, life of arachnids, rodents and plants flourishes in it. Geologically, the Empty Quarter is one of the most oil-rich places in the world. Vast oil reserves have been discovered there.

مع درجات حرارة تصل في الصيف إلى ما يقرب من 55 درجة مئوية ظهرا و كثبان رملية أعلى من برج إيفل فإن الربع الخالي قد تعتبر أكثر البيئات صعوبة على وجه الأرض. ومع ذلك، وكما في كل مكان آخر تقريبا، تزدهر حياة العناكب والقوارض و النباتات فيها ويمكن الاطلاع على جميع أنحاء الربع الخالي. جيولوجيا تعتبر صحراء الربع الخالي واحدة من أكثر الأماكن الغنية بالنفط في العالم. فقد تم اكتشاف احتياطيات نفطية هائلة هناك.
