Stretching earlobes is a ritual practiced by some cultures around the world. It used to be a practice in the Kelabit tribe culture and was regarded as a sign of beauty. Everyone would have them. The earlobes that are pierced with a sharp bamboo or needle will be slowly enlarged with years by hanging additional pairs of ear rings. However, this practice has almost disappeared.

إطالة شحمة الأذن هي إحدى الطقوس التي تمارسها بعض الثقافات حول العالم. وقد كانت هذه الممارسات موجودة في ثقافة قبيلة الـ"كيلابيت" وكانت تعتبر سمة من سمات الجمال. ويتعين على الجميع القيام به. يتم خرم شحمة الأذن بقطعة خيزران حادة أو إبرة ثم توسع الفتحة ببطء مع السنين بوضع حلقات إضافية في الأذن. ومع مرور الأيام أختفت هذه الممارسات تقريباً.

The Kelabits were first “discovered” around the turn of the 20th Century, in Sarawak of Indonesia. They are a tribe of fierce warriors and headhunters who saw off anyone entering their territory. Kelabit tribe is one of the smallest tribes in Sarawak and now their total population is about 6000 people.

وقد تم اكتشاف قبيلة "كيلابيت" في بداية القرن العشرين في جزيرة ساراواك الإندونيسية وهي قبيلة من المحاربين الشرسين صائدي رؤوس أي شخص يدخل أراضيها. وقبيلة كيلابيت هي واحدة من أصغر القبائل في ساراواك والآن يبلغ مجموع أفرادهم حوالي 6000 شخص.
