Wearing a jewelry crafted out of a loved one's hair may sound creepy, but it was a common in the United States and Europe throughout the late-Georgian and Victorian eras (late18th and early 19th century). Though some contemporary artists used hair for their art work.

Hair jewelry was usually made in cooperation with goldsmiths producing beautiful creations of hair mounted in gold and often decorated with pearls or precious stones, mostly made for the mourning of a beloved person! Hair has qualities that cause it to last for hundreds, possibly thousands, of years. Hair has often played a part in myths and legends; a Swedish proverb says "rings and bracelets of hair increase love". Many famous people owned hair jewelry including Napoleon, Admiral Nelson, Queen Victoria and her large family, Christina Nilsson and Jenny Lind. Nowadays, it is for collectors. (Source)

عادة ما كانت تصنع مجوهرات الشعر بالتعاون مع الصاغة لإنتاج إبداعات جميلة من الشعر مثبة بالذهب وغالبا ما كانت تزين باللؤلؤ أو الأحجار الكريمة، وتكون في معظمها تعبيرا عن الحداد على شخص محبوب! وللشعر صفات تجعله يعيش لمئات وربما آلاف السنين. وكثيرا ما كان للشعر دور في الخرافات والأساطير. فالمثل السويدي يقول "خواتم وأساور من الشعر تزيد الحب" وهناك العديد من المشاهير اقتنوا مجوهرات من الشعر مثل نابليون والأدميرال نيلسون والملكة فيكتوريا وعائلتها الكبيرة وكريستينا نيلسون وجيني ليند. وفي وقتنا الحاضر يهتم بجمعها هواة الإقتناء.
