My dear lady, could you live without mirrors?

سيدتي العزيزة هل تستطيعين العيش بدون مرايا؟

This subject came to my mind, much because of what I notice women's fondness with mirrors, and more recently their extreme affection with selfies on smart phones. So I researched the Internet in Arabic for "living without mirror", but Google did not find anything in Arabic and amazingly suggested: "living without a woman". I knew then that Arabs interest does not include mirrors but women!!! Then I decided to search in English and I found a lot of blogs and stories about living without mirrors, mostly written by western women!

خطر ببالي هذا الموضوع لكثرة ما ألاحظ من عشق المرأة للمرآة، وحديثاً عشقها الشديد للتقاط صور السيلفي بالهواتف الذكية. لذلك قمت بالبحث باللغة العربية في الإنترنت عن "العيش بدون مرآة" ولكن جوجل لم يجد أي شيء حول ذلك بالعربية، واستغربت النتائج التي اقترحها محرك جوجل: "العيش بدون امرأة". فعرفت أن اهتمامات العرب ليس بينها المرآة وإنما المرأة!!! فرق بسيط بين ألف ممدوة وألف بهمزة!!! عندها قررت البحث بالإنكليزية فوجدت الكثير من المواضيع والقصص عن العيش بدون مرآة معظمها كتبتها نساء غربيات!

عاشت ست سنوات على قارب بدون مرآة في ميتشغان.

Out of these stories, the one that caught my attention most, was the story of a woman lived with her husband for six years in a boat in Michigan without a mirror. She says in her blog, "my appearance was namely in the hands of my husband and over time it made me realize that it didn't matter what I was wearing. The one person I wanted to impress was always telling me I looked perfect." [@]

وأكثر هذه القصص لفتا للانتباه قصة امرأة سكنت وعاشت هي وزوجها مدة ست سنوات في قارب في ميتشغان بدون مرآة. تقول في مدونتها "كان مظهري بيد زوجي وبمرور الزمن تحققت من أن ما ألبس ليس ذو أهمية. فالشخص الوحيد الذي أردت لفت اهتمامه كان دوماً يقول لي بأنني أبدو تمام ومكتملة".[@]

Living mirror-Free gave this woman confidence.

العيش بدون مرآة أعطى هذه المرأة الثقة بنفسها.

One other woman wrote that Living Mirror-Free: "Shaved time off my morning routine, More flexibility in my outfits, Better mood in the morning, Less anxiety about how I look, Increased confidence at work and I spend more time thinking about how I act rather than how I look doing it." [@] According to the Daily Mail, the average British woman looks at herself in a mirror 38 times a day. Nearly 80% of women are likely to be dissatisfied with their reflection and more than half see a distorted image, compared to men who are more likely to be either pleased with what they see or indifferent.[@]

كتبت امرأة أخرى أن حياة خالية من مرآة "تختصر من مدة الروتين الصباحي اليومي، وتعطيني المرونة في لباسي، وتحسن مزاجي في الصباح، وتقلل قلقي حول كيف أبدو، وتزيد من الثقة في العمل فأقضي المزيد من الوقت في التفكير حول كيف أتصرف بدلا من كيف أبدو عندما أتصرف". [@] ووفقا لصحيفة الديلي ميل فإن المرأة الإنكليزية تنظر في المرآة 38 مرة يومياَ في المتوسط. وتقريبا 80% من النساء يشعرون بعدم الرضا من صورتهم فيها وأكثر من النصف يرون صورة مشوهة مقارنة بالرجال الذين على الأغلب يسرون بصورتهم أو لا يبالون. Even if there are no mirrors, woman can find a way to see her reflection!

حتى لو لم توجد مرآة فالمرأة ستجد طريقة لرؤية صورتها!

Women won't miss a chance to see their reflections in any reflecting surface while on the run.

النساء لا يتوانين عن النظر في أي إنعكاس لصورتهن على أي سطح عاكس خلال تحركهن.
