Recruiting Cockroach and Other Insects as Spiesتجنيد الصراصير والحشرات الأخرى كجواسيس

For years, research agencies have been trying to utilize insects and bugs for military and intelligence purposes. Some have been trying to train bees to sniff explosives, drugs and toxic substances. The newest twist on this concept are plans to link up armies of the cyborg bugs in a peer-to-peer, or insect-to-insect, network that will allow them to communicate with each other and with their human masters.

لسنوات عديدة تحاول وكالات الأبحاث تجنيد الحشرات لأغراض عسكرية واستخباراتية. وبعضهم يحاول تدريب النحل على شم المتفجرات والمخدرات والمواد السامة. وأحدث تطور في هذا الموضوع هو خطط لربط جيوش الحشرات المسيرة فيما بين أرتالها وذلك الحشرات في ما بينها بشبكة تسمح لها بالتواصل مع بعضها البعض وكذلك مع أسيادها من بني البشر.

Spying Cockroaches   جواسيس الصراصير

The University of North Carolina succeeded in controlling the movement of cockroaches. Scientist placed of a tiny electronic 'backpack' weighing just 0.7g on the back of Madagascar cockroaches. The controller is wired to the cockroach's antennae and tail. The tail has sensory organs capable of detecting air movement suggesting a predator approaching from behind. By stimulating this area, cockroaches are encouraged to run forward. They are steered by stimulation of the antennae. When one is activated, the cockroach brain interprets this as touching an object; it turns in the opposite direction. The purpose of this is to control small cockroaches to obtain data in hard to reach places.

نجحت جامعة ولاية كارولينا الشمالية في التحكم بالصراصير. إذ قام العلماء بوضع جهاز تحكم صغير لا يتجاوز وزنه 0.7 غرام على ظهر صراصير مدغشقر. ويتصل جهاز التحكم بقرون استشعار الصراصير و بأذنابها. والأذناب فيها حواس قادرة على اكتشاف حركة الهواء مما توحي باقتراب مفترس من الخلف. ومن خلال تحفيز هذا الطرف يتم تشجع الصراصير للتحرك نحو الأمام. ويتم قيادتها بتحفيز قرونها. فعند تنشيط أحدها يفسر دماغ الصرصور ذلك وكأنه لمس شيئاً فيتحرك مبتعداً في الاتجاه المعاكس. والغرض من السيطرة على الصراصير الصغيرة هو الحصول على معلومات في الأماكن التي يصعب الوصول إليها.

A team of scientists funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) have implanted miniature neural and muscle stimulation systems into beetles to enable their flight to be remotely controlled.

زرع فريق من العلماء بتمويل من وكالة مشاريع البحوث المتقدمة التابعة لوزارة الدفاع الامريكي نظام تحفيز عصبي مصغر يتحكم بعضلات الخنافس للتمكين من التحكم من بعد بطيرانها.

Bomb-Sniffing Bees    نحل كاشف القنابل

Researchers at Los Alamos are training honey bees on scents commonly associated with various explosive devices. Once the bees have been conditioned they could be released into a room and tracked to see if they are able to pick up an explosive device by the wiggling of their antennae. Researches also believe that bees could be trained to detect certain illegal narcotics in a similar way.

يقوم الباحثون في لوس ألاموس بتدريب نحل العسل على الروائح المختلفة المرتبطة بالعبوات الناسفة. بحيث أنه عندما يتم إطلاقها في غرفة ومتابعتها يتمكنوا من اكتشاف وجود متفجرات وذلك خلال مراقبة حركة لسانها وقرون استشعارها. ويعتقد الباحثون أيضا أنه يمكن تدريب النحل للكشف عن المخدرات غير المشروعة بطريقة مماثلة.
