Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, which is known as the "The Desert Pearl", was turned fully into night causing a total obscurity at 3.40 pm on Saturday February 25, when a massive sandstorm hit the city. The visibility was totally reduced to zero particularly in the places adjacent to desert areas.
تحولت مدينة الرياض عاصمة المملكة العربية السعودية والتي تكنى بـ "لؤلؤة الصحراء" تماما إلى ليل دامس وعدم رؤية في الساعة 3:40 بعد الظهر من يوم السبت 25 فبراير (شباط) 2012 وذلك عندما هبت عاصفة رملية هائلة ضربت المدينة بأكملها. فانخفضت الرؤية تماما الى الصفر وبالأخص في الأماكن المتاخمة للمناطق الصحراوية
The dust-storm was arising and coming from the desert in curly and smoky shape that blanketed the whole atmosphere within few minutes. The gusty sound of the sandstorm movement has really indicated its force and tempo. In minutes lampposts that were lit and hazard lights on the vehicles were rarely seen. The subsequent rainfall succeeded to gain the visibility to its normalcy although the weather was cloudy and drizzly. The huge dust-storm brought the traffic into a halt for nearly an hour and created roadblocks and congestion throughout the city.
كان غبار العاصفة الناشئ والقادم من الصحراء يتقدم بشكل مجعد وسديمي فغطى الجو كله في غضون دقائق قليلة. وكان صوت العاصفة يدل على قوة وسرعة إيقاع حركة العاصفة الرملية. وفي دقائق أنيرت أعمدة الانارة وظهرت أنوار غمازات المركبات. وفقد جلى سقوط الأمطار لاحقاً الرؤية لتعود الحياة إلى طبيعيتها على الرغم من أن الطقس كان غائما ومغبراً. وقد أدت العاصفة الرملية الهائلة إلى توقف حركة المرور لمدة ساعة تقريبا وإلى اختناقات مرورية وازدحام في جميع أنحاء المدينة
