The Qolşärif (or Qol-Sharif) mosque was reputed – at the time of its construction in the 16th century– as the largest mosque in Russia, and in Europe outside of Istanbul. It was named after Qolşärif the statesman, religious Imam and Old Tatar poet. Qolşärif died in 1552 with his numerous students while defending Kazan from Russian invaders, who destroyed the mosque. Since 1996 the mosque has been rebuilt with the help of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates and was inaugurated in 2005. (Source) | اشتهر مسجد قول شريف (أو كول شريف) عند بنائه في القرن السادس عشر على أنه أكبر مسجد في روسيا و أوروبا باستثناء اسطنبول. وقد سمي باسم رجل الدولة والإمام المسلم والشاعر التتاري قول شريف. وقد توفي قول شريف عام 1552 مع عدد كبير من تلاميذه بينما كانوا يدافعون عن مدينة قازان من الغزاة الروس الذين دمروا المسجد. ومنذ عام 1996 تمت إعادة بنائه بدعم من المملكة العربية السعودية والإمارات العربية المتحدة وتم إفتتاحه عام 2005.
