Human toothed fish are reported to attack men's testicles mistaking them for floating nuts.

تفيد التقارير أن أسماكاً لها أسنان إنسان تهاجم خصيات الرجال ظنا منها أنها ثمر عائم.

News agents, last summer, reported a warning for male swimmers off the coast of Denmark and Sweden not to swim naked to protect their private parts from a specific fish sometimes mistake man's testicles for tree nuts, one of their favorite foods.

نشرت وكالات الأنباء في الصيف الماضي تحذيرا أصدر للسباحين الذكور قبالة سواحل الدنمارك والسويد بعدم السباحة عراة لحماية أعضائهم الخاصة من سمكة معينة تخطيء أحيانا بالتمييز ما بين خصيتي الرجال وثمار الأشجار العائمة، وهي أحد أطعمتها المفضلة.

Pacu fish has very human teeth and are natives of the Amazon and Orinoco river basins of lowland Amazonia, but they have also been reported as far as Papua New Guinea, where they were introduced by man to aid the local fishing industry. Pacu is related to the meat-eating piranha, both sharing the same subfamily Serrasalminae.

أسماك الباكو لها أسنان شبيهة تماما بأسنان الإنسان وموطنها الأصلي هو أحواض أنهار الأمازون وأورينوكو في الأراضي المنخفضة من أمازونيا، ولكنهما وجدت أيضاً حتى في بابوا غينيا الجديدة، حيث قام البشر باحضارها للمساعدة في مهنة الصيد المحلية. ترتبط أسماك الباكو بأسماك البيرانا آكلة اللحوم، فهما من نفس فصيلة سيراسالمينيا.

The piranha is a carnivorous species while the pacu is omnivorous with vegetative tendencies. The difference is evident in the structure of their teeth. Piranha have pointed, razor-sharp teeth whereas pacu have squarer, straighter teeth, that resemble those of humans to crush nuts and fruits, and sometimes to eat other fish and invertebrates. Pacu usually eat floating fruits and nuts that drop from trees in the Amazon, and on a few occasions were reported to attack the testicles of naked male swimmers mistaking them to be floating nuts. This has earned them the name of "ball-cutter" after they castrated a couple of local fishermen in Papua New Guinea.

أسماك البيرانا هي نوع من آكلات الحوم في حين أن أسماك الباكو تصنف على أنها آكلة لكل شيء مع ميل للنبات. والفرق واضح في بنية أسنانها. فسمكة البيرانا لها أسنان مدببة وحادة جداً في حين أن سمكة الباكو لها أسنان مربعة ومستقيمة، تشبه أسنان البشر وذلك لكسر الجوز والثمرات وسحق الفاكهة، وتأكل أحيانا الأسماك واللافقاريات الأخرى. إذ أن الباكو يأكل عادة الفواكه والثمرات العائمة التي تسقط من الأشجار في نهر الأمازون، وقد أفادت التقارير في حالات قليلة مهاجمة خصي السباحين الذكور العراة ظنا منها أنها ثمرات عائمة. وقد أطلق عليها اسم "قاطعة الخصيتين" بعد أن أخصت إثنين من الصيادين المحليين في بابوا غينيا الجديدة.

Pacus are legal to own in the United States, can be bought in aquarium stores and are easy to raise. The trouble is many aquarium owners are unaware that pacus can grow up to 27 kg and 1.2 meters long, which is way too large for a typical home aquarium. When pet pacus outgrow their fish tank, many owners end up dumping the fish in nearby lakes.

إن امتلاك أسماك الباكو قانوني في الولايات المتحدة، ويمكن شراؤها من متاجر تربية الأسماك فهي سهلة التربية. والمشكلة أن العديد من هواة أحواض الأسماك لا يدركون أن سمكة الباكو يمكن أن تنمو ليصل وزنها إلى 27 كغ وطول 1.2 مترا، بحيث لا يمكن لأحواض الأسماك المنزلية العادية أن تحتويها فيقوم عندها مربوها بالتخلص منها بإلقائها في البحيرات القريبة.

While pacus are not aggressive carnivores like the piranha, their crushing jaw system can be hazardous. One toddler needed surgery after a pacu bit her finger at Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World in Scotland.

ورغم أن الباكو ليس آكل لحوم عدواني مثل أسماك البيرانا، إلا أن فكها قوي ساحق وخطر. فقد احتاج أحد الأطفال إلى عملية جراحية بعد أن عضت سمكة باكو إصبعه في حديقة عالم الفراشات والحشرات في ادنبره في اسكتلندا.
