A Filipino pearl producing company by name of Jewelmer has successfully produced pearls with a rich natural golden color, at their pearl farms on the island of Palawan in south western Philippines. The creation of a golden pearl takes 323 precise steps and up to five years of dedicated care. At Jewlmer golden pearl farms, gold-lipped Pinctada maxima oysters are bred and grown for two to three years before being grafted. After grafting it takes another two or three years for the pearl oyster to deposit layers of aragonite crystal around the inserted nuclei. During this period, oysters are placed in baskets, which are regularly turned and cleaned to ensure the health of the mollusk. Oysters are also checked by X-ray six to ten months after operation to monitor pearl growth.
