The mummification process starts by cutting open the body to drain the fluids, which are used to coat the hair and skin of relatives. The corpse's orifices are then sewn shut, to preserve the internal organs. The corpse is then clay-coated and then smoked in a hut for over a month, to completely dry out any bodily fluids to prevent decay.
