One of the strangest things that I face in social media and in some emails,
the use of certain phrases to promote what they send. Sometime ago I received an email beginning with bold letters "Praise God, Rivers Flow Under a City" claiming that theses rivers originate and flow under the city. I opened my mouth astound. Could this world have a paradise with flowing rivers underneath? If so, where is it? | من أغرب الأمور التي تواجهني في منصات التواصل الإجتماعي وكذلك في بعض الرسائل الإلكترونية هو استخدام مرسليها عبارات يحاولون فيها الترويج لما يرسلون. فمنذ مدة وصلتني رسالة الكترونية (إيميل) بدأ مرسلها وبحروف كبيرة بـ "سبحان الله مدينة تجري من تحتها الأنهار" ويدعى في رسالته بأن هذه الأنهار تنبع وتجري تحت هذه المدينة. فتحت فمي مشدوها. فهل هناك فعلاً جنة تجري من تحتها الأنهار في هذه الدنيا؟ وإن كان كذلك، فأين هي؟

In Sept 2012, I attended a fine arts exhibition at Jeddah Atelier and I was amazed by the caricature paintings of the Egyptian artist Mohsen Abuelazm, born in Fayoum, 1958. The Cannonball Tree is a spectacular tree during flowering season. The whole trunk is covered by fuchsiaflowers. It is a tropical and subtropical tree. The tree got its name from the shape and size of its fruits which resemble cannon balls. The fruit is large, spherical and woody ranging from 15 to 24cm in diameter. A single tree can bear as many as 200 or 300 fruits.

The city has been celebrating garlic, since 1979, in an annual event call Gilroy Garlic Festival, in July.
